A Fine Balance

I first read A Fine Balance about 15 years ago... and re-read it this past August. I’ve always been a little wary of re-reading a book (FOMO on something else shinier, newer, etc.), but I’m so glad I read this again. It may have extra special meaning for those with some connection to the Indian subcontinent, but it's amazing regardless. It’s a moving story of the interconnectedness of life; our choice to be happy or sad; the absurdity, tragedy, and unfairness of religious dogma, and a hyperrealistic, though fictional, account of a city that means so much to me, Mumbai. The author, Rohinton Mistry, won a number of awards for this book (winner of the Los Angeles Times Book Prize in Fiction, the Giller Prize, and the Commonwealth Writers Prize as well as a Booker Prize finalist).
